Dr James Tanton 
Committed to Joyful Mathematics Learning

Dr. James Tanton (PhD, Princeton 1994, mathematics) is an author, a consultant, and an ambassador for the Mathematical Association of America in Washington D.C., currently serving as their Mathematician-at-Large. He has taught mathematics both at university and high-school institutions. James is absolutely committed to promoting effective and joyful mathematics thinking, learning, and doing at all levels of the education spectrum.


James has written over a dozen books which include THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MATHEMATICS, TRIGONOMETRY, FUNCTION AND THEIR GRAPHS, HOW ROUND IS A CUBE?, SOLVE THIS, and wordless puzzle books, and has developed two DVD Great Courses for The Teaching Company. He advises on curriculum, consults with teachers, and gives demonstration classes and professional development across the globe. James also leads the MAA’s Curriculum Inspirations project, www.maa.org/ci, and is a founder of The Global Math Project, www.globalmathproject.org, which brought joyous uplifting mathematics to over 6 million students across the globe. Dr. Jennifer Chang Wathall
Committed to Teaching Mathematics for Deep Understanding

Jennifer Chang Wathall is an independent consultant, author and part-time instructor for the University of Hong Kong. She is best known for her work on Concept-Based Mathematics: Teaching for Deep Understanding in Secondary Classrooms.

With over 25 years experience in the education field, Jennifer has worked in several international schools and delivers keynotes and professional development around the world.  Sharing her knowledge from her Masters of Arts and Doctorate in Educational Technology, she facilitates workshops  about  the use of digital instructional media and how to effectively integrate a 1:1 program into the classroom.

She is a certified trainer in the DISCtm behavior assessment tool and she is a certified independent consultant in "Concept Based Curriculum Design" by Dr H. Lynn Erickson. Jennifer works as an independent consultant supporting math departments and schools transition to concept-based curriculum and instruction. She utilizes her skills as a certified Performance Coach to facilitate transition and change.
